Ever stop and wonder what goes into a logo? From design to cutting or printing, and installation, we’re here to help! We’d also love to help you understand more about the process and show you some of the work we’ve done. First off, ask yourself what you want from a logo. Do you want it to “pop”? Do you want potential customers to understand what you do by looking at it? I think the answer here is an obvious yes. The issue logo’s are meant to resolve is brand recognition. You want people to look at your logo and know what it means, right?

Think about the classic “Chevy” logo:

By looking at it, unless you already know about the Chevrolet automotive brand you would have a hard time understanding what this company does. Now, of course in this day and age Chevy is a well established brand and it’s hard to confuse their logo for anything else. Unfortunately this isn’t the case for a lot of small businesses and start-up companies. Brand recognition takes time and effort, which are greatly helped along by a well designed logo!

Think about this logo which we cut from vinyl window film pictured below:

Due North Catering’s new logo, cut out of iron grey and a soft-blue film

Due North Catering is a small West Michigan catering company that needed a logo that both captured their name and helped people understand what they do. Of course this is usually as easy as incorporating their full name into the logo, but it takes time and effort to make sure it’s done well. After the design process, it needs to be plotted on a vinyl-cutting machine and skillfully applied to vehicles and buildings. One of the snags that a lot of people hit in this process is the issue of a logo that looks great on paper, but is almost impossible to cut out of vinyl due to details and lines being put in place that would look terrible when cut out and applied. Safe to say, with a few tweaks we got this logo ready to cut and applied it quickly enough for Due North Catering to have their logo on their van’s and building in time for their grand opening!

If you are looking to have a logo designed and cut out of window film (by Five Star or otherwise), start by asking yourself these questions:

Company-related questions

1- How would you describe your services and/or products?

2- What are the long term goals of your company?

3- Why do you want a new logo? What do you want your new logo to accomplish?

4- Who are your main competitors?

5- How are you different from your competitors?

6- What’s the age range of your target customer base?

Of course there are probably others to ask as well, but these will give a good start to the process. Next, ask yourself this: What media do I want this logo applied on?

If the answer is something as simple as online and digital only, then you have nothing to worry about. But what if you want it printed or cut on a vinyl plotter? When we know the answer to this question it greatly helps us in our design and application process of your new logo. They both have their strong points. The strong point of a logo cut from vinyl is that it can be applied to more mediums and looks great when applied to glass windows and vehicles. While to strong point of printed vinyl is it looks far more detailed and can capture an image better, making it great for printed banners and the like. When you know what you’d like to do with your logo, then starts the design process!
